You can send and receive private messages from your 1st-degree connections when you use the messaging feature in the LinkedIn mobile app. The application allows you to mark messages as unread, delete them, and you can even add multiple connections to a conversation.
- So, let's dive deeper into messaging. This is one of the core components of LinkedIn, and it's a great way to communicate with your 1st-degree connections. I've tapped the Messaging icon at the bottom of the screen, and here we can see all of our messages that we've received. If you'd like to create a new message, you'll simply tap the Compose icon in the upper right-hand corner. We can start typing a name, I'll look for myself. I can tap my name there, and if you'd like you can even add additional people. So I can type in another name, and select that person as well.
And in the center of the screen, that's where I'll start typing my message. You also have the opportunity to share a photo with your post by selecting the Camera icon, and once you're ready, I'll just choose Send. And just like that, I've connected with myself and Reggie. Now I logged in as a different user, so I'm not actually connecting with my own profile. I'm acting as if I'm someone else messaging me and Reggie. If I tap the Back icon, you'll now see that that conversation is at the top of the screen.
If you want to delete a message, you can simply swipe to the left on an iPhone device, and choose Delete. Just like we swiped to the left, we can also swipe to the right, and choose to mark an option as Unread. If you're on an Android device, to delete a conversation you'll actually have to tap into the conversation, and then click on the Profile photo of the conversation there in the upper right-hand corner, and then tap Delete Conversation. This is also where you can turn on and off notifications for this message, so if you've got a group thread and there's a lot of messages flying back and forth, you'll simply pop into that view, and slide the Notifications toggle Off.
Also here you can choose to add additional people into the conversation, so if you want to bring more people in, choose Add People and simply type in a name. Now it's good to know that if you add someone in, they're not going to see all their messages, so anything that you've previously talked about isn't going to appear for them, they're going to start fresh from the message that you type. I'll select Back and then choose the X in the upper left-hand corner, and there you go. It's that simple to get started with messaging on the LinkedIn App.
