When getting started on LinkedIn Learning, it is important to add skills and adjust profile settings to help customize recommended content.
- [Instructor] Before we get started, let's take a look at how we can access the LinkedIn learning platform. So from a LinkedIn account in the upper right hand corner, if you have a subscription that includes LinkedIn Learning, you'll see the learning icon. Now if it doesn't appear here it may appear under the work dropdown menu where you'll see this learning icon. I'm going to go ahead and click on that and when you first access your LinkedIn Learning account, you'll be asked to share some skills that you're interested in learning about. So here you can see that I already have three skills.
I'll click this. It says social media responsive web design and instructional design. Those are ones that I added. Now if you didn't add any when you first set your account up that's okay you can always go back and add them by clicking on the profile icon up here at the top. If I click here I can go down to skills and from here it shows the three skills that I've already added and then I'm going to go in and add another one. Let's say in this case public speaking. I'll click on that and we've now added that skill.
It's important to add these skills, because it customizes your experience. The information on your LinkedIn profile along with these skills that you list and your viewing history will help LinkedIn Learning to customize the courses that they recommend to you. I'm going to click on the home icon and this brings us back to our LinkedIn Learning home page. Now one other important thing here is in the upper right hand corner, if I click on the profile dropdown menu, I can also adjust my settings. I can go in here and decide which content language that I'd like to use and then below that you can adjust your LinkedIn Learning privacy settings.
One final note is that in this course, I'll be using the desktop version of LinkedIn Learning. However there is a great mobile app that you can download and use to watch content on the platform. Although the look and layout will be different on a mobile device the concepts will be the same. One nice thing about the mobile version is that you have the ability to download courses to view offline making it even more convenient to learn anywhere at any time. So now that we're inside of our account and have updated our skills, let's dive in and get started with how to use the LinkedIn Learning platform.
