Company insights allow Premium users to gain more in-depth information about companies, including total employee count over time, employee growth by function, new hires, notable alumni, and job openings by department over time.
- [Oliver] Company pages on LinkedIn are filled with valuable information related to a specific company. If you're a premium user of LinkedIn, you also have access to the company insights feature. This feature gives you access to even more information, including a company's total employee count, employee distribution and growth by function, new hires, data related to job openings, and more. Let's take a look at an example of this. I'm currently logged in to my account, which is a premium account, and up in the search bar I'm going to search for a company. In this case I'll search for Microsoft, however this could be any company that you wanted to look up as long as they have a LinkedIn presence and enough data for insights.
I'll select Microsoft, and here on the Microsoft page we see a ton of information about the company. All users will be able to follow the company and view jobs available at the company. You can also see which of your connections work at this specific company, or view the LinkedIn accounts of employees who work here. You can read the overview of the company and see updates that they've posted on LinkedIn. And remember that if you follow a company, their updates will also appear in your news feed. These company pages are great for anyone who wants to explore companies that they're interested in, get the latest company and industry news, and learn about new job opportunities.
Now below this is where we can start to see some of the company insights, which are available on premium accounts. I'll scroll down here. These insights can be extremely useful in helping you to do research and analysis of companies, and can be especially useful to people who are looking for jobs and want to research more about a company that they may want to work at. Or, for people in sales looking to learn about a prospective client. For recruiters, looking for potential hires from specific companies, or anyone who wants to learn more about trends within a company or industry.
The first of these resources is the total employee count, which shows the total number of LinkedIn members employed at the company over time. Here for Microsoft I can see that right now we have the filter set to one year. However we can adjust this to six months or two years if we'd like. And then down below it shows me the total number of employees that they have working there, and the trend of this over time. You can see here, the percentage growth, and the percentage growth of your peers are people that you are connected with. Now down below this, we have the employee distribution and head count growth by function, which shows employee growth in certain departments over time.
So here at Microsoft, now we can take a more in depth look. We can set up the filters if we want for six months or a year. We can choose the functions, and right now I have it set for showing engineering, sales, information technology, program and project management, but I can add other ones if I wanted, say for instance administration. And then it will add this to the chart. And here I can see the growth of the overall company, which in engineering over one year has been a rise in 6%. And within my peers it has been a rise in 12%.
And so you can take a look at this data and find the growth that has happened in the company in these specific departments. Next I can see the number of new hires over time, as well as recent senior management hires. So here I can see the number of hires they had, and if I highlight on one, for instance here, January 2017, they had 2,153 total hires, and six senior management hires. So this is a great place to look for the number of overall hires that the company has had over time.
And down below they give you the accounts of senior management hires. And here you can see that there are several pages of that. Below this we have notable company alumni, which is defined as former employees with the past title of vice president or higher, who have a past position with the company that ended within the last 24 months. And then you can see the total job openings for the company broken down again by the specific departments. One thing to note is that this specific total job openings module is only available for companies based in the United States.
