An overview of the shooting process

- We've talked a little bit about HDR and panoramas, and putting this technology together is fantastic and even easier with the Lightroom updates. What we're looking at here is how we can simply combine the content to create both types of imagery. Now, when you shoot an HDR panorama, what's typically happening is you're going to still do the panoramic shooting with the panning between each shot. However, you should take advantage of the auto bracketing option that your camera supports. This way when you press and hold the shutter button, it fires a burst of shots, and it's going to capture the scene with multiple exposures. Now, because this can get pretty big, you're going to have to be mindful of a few things. First, make sure you set the camera to a high shooting speed. Try to use a very fast shooting speed so you can quickly go through the brackets. And when you pan between shots, do so quickly. This means that if there's action in the scene, you're going to have to be mindful of things like the clouds moving, or subjects moving. Therefor, you're going to want to get the brackets and the panning done pretty quickly. Make sure you really survey the scene and you're familiar with it. If you're working on a scene that doesn't have a fast moving sky or a lot of people in it, well, then you got a bit more flexibility to take your time. But in general, because we're capturing a lot of shots, we need to move through pretty quickly so the lighting and the subject remains consistent. And in case I wasn't clear before, this is an absolute must for a tripod. Make sure your camera is stable on a tripod type environment, so that you don't have to worry about variation. You don't want any handheld shots here, cause it's going to make it very difficult to put all the pieces together. All right, let's take a look at how this works.
