What are lens correction profiles?

- Every lens has its own characteristics, whether you're shooting a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, or something in between. These characteristics sometimes add to the charm. Other times they are flaws that get in the way of enjoying an image. It might be subtle, but the wider angle lenses tend to start to get distortion or a barrel effect, where there's unwanted curvature at the edges. Horizons can become bowed, or objects look skewed. You can also see other flaws, particularly on a telephoto lens, where there might be some chromatic aberration, or color fringing, around areas of high contrast. Well, these flaws are often built into the lens themselves, but we can often get around them. Adobe offers lens profiles, and these tend to be built in. These are built often in partnership with different manufacturers, so that they can be automatically recognized based upon the metadata in your lens. Now, one thing to keep in…
