Using a table for tethering

Once the cameras set up, you're going to want to place to put your computer. Now I don't recommend walking around the set holding you laptop the whole time so get some sort of table. For this I just went to a typical big box store and got a nice table. It's sturdy, solid, and I'm can go ahead and just put that on my set. I recommend that you get something that's not too much bigger than the laptop, so that it doesn't take up too much room. And it's going to work pretty well. Now this is an easy, low budget solution. And you'll take your laptop and set it on the table. Once the computer is on the table, you may want to take some extra steps to lock it down. Now, in this particular case, this table's not super sturdy, but it's going to work. And, what I'm going to do is, just take a strap. Now, you could use a belt or a web, this just happens to be a strap off of a laptop bag. And what I'm going to do is, pass it underneath the table, take that back around, and hook it. And then, using the straps on the laptop, you could figure out a way to basically tighten that down a bit. And move it so that the straps are minimized. There we go. Looks pretty good on that side. And let's just tighten it a little bit from here. There we go. And I can tighten that down. And you see, we've got a little bit of extra security. Now, this is not a perfect solution but it's going to help reduce the chance of the laptop sliding off and provide a little bit of extra protection. There are lots of other ways, maybe you get a webbed belt or a velcro strap, but find something to make sure that this minimizes motion, and that it's going to stay more likely on the table. Now, this is the low-tech budget way, but the good news is that with tethering rising in popularity there are actually dedicated companies that make tables and straps specifically designed for this task.
