Using a color profile target
- If you want the greatest accuracy, one a things you can do is start to use a color profile target. This contains reference colors that can be used to calibrate. Now, these are available for both photography and video, and they come from different manufacturers. This particular one is from X-Rite, and they are one of the makers that are considered industry standard. Now, you want to be careful when using this target to hold it so it is perpendicular to the camera. If it's at an angle or tilted, it will start to pick up extra light. So what we generally want to see is that it is perfectly perpendicular to the camera, so that the camera is reading the color accurately with the light in the scene. Now, these come in a variety of sizes, and you can ask your subject to hold it. Or if you're shooting something like product photography, place it directly in front while capturing.
