- [Instructor] Think outside the box. We often see how angles affect our composition and we've learned some things about posing to create emotion, but sometimes I get bored. I try to create images in silhouette that have a bit more interest. Let's start with something easy, trees. I don't live in an area that has a lot of open fields with big oak trees. If I did, you bet I'd use them, but using trees to frame silhouettes is a fantastic way to think beyond the outline of your subject. Lakes have great trees and are a wonderful place if you aren't near the ocean to bring some interest to your silhouette compositions. While traveling with my family, my kids and I made some friends. They were all out dancing by the lake late at night. I love that this image shows my kids having fun. It's not the best picture, but it's a lake and it's a silhouette, but I stepped back and I used the giant trees above to frame them. I was able to grab the shot.
