- The use of a vignette is a nice way to gently darken the edges. And there's two main ways to do this in Light Room. Let's start with the easier method, which is the vignette tool. You'll find this loaded in the section called effects. What you can now do is gently adjust the vignette. Now I'm going to overdo it for a moment, so you really see it. Let's take that all the way down and darken it. The midpoint adjusts the size of the vignette, and then we can also change the roundness or the shape. Notice in this case, I'm going to go more of an oblong pill. Feathering is the gentle blend or hard edge, and highlights will preserve the brighter areas. What I'm going to do is back off the amount there and you see a nice, subtle change. If we toggle that on and off, it pulls you in.
