Changing the crop orientation

In this movie, I want to highlight a technique and a shortcut that you can use which will allow you to change the crop orientation. We'll be working with this photograph here. So let's begin by cropping the image, tap the R key or click on the Crop tool icon to select the Crop tool. And let's just say for the sake of an argument that this photograph will be used in an HD video project and we know that an aspect ratio is 16 by nine. Well, here if we navigate to the area where we can select our aspect ratio, we can choose 16 by nine or 1920 by 1080.

We can go ahead and click on that to select it. This will then lock down the aspect ratio so that as we click to change the overall composition or to crop the image, we will then have this particular aspect ratio. Yet, there is a very distinct problem with this. Currently the aspect ratio is actually nine by 16 versus 16 by nine. In other words it is vertical rather than horizontal.
