Using an iTTL extension cord
- I'd like to introduce you to a little tool that's pretty handy to keep in your kit. It's a flash extension cord. This one is the Nikon SC-29. It's the Nikon brand, it's really well built, and the key thing about it is that it's iTTL-compatible. It's got the pins on the hot shoe connection and the flash connection that allow the flash and camera to communicate just as if the flash were mounted directly to the camera. So it's really just an extension cord. You can use one of these, you can use two of these, you can use three, and put them together to really stretch the flash far away from the camera. But why would you ever want to stretch the flash far away from the camera with a cord? I can think of two good reasons you might want to use an extension cord for your flash. Firstly, if your camera is a model that does not support Commander Mode with the pop-up flash, then you can use your Speedlight off the camera, communicating with the camera, as a off-camera flash.
