Strategies for TTL and manual for off-camera flash
- Working with the flash off the camera, using off-camera flash, sometimes we call it OCF, is really enjoyable for me. I use it every day and I've picked up some tips that I think will help you troubleshoot as you're working in the field, both for TTL mode and manual mode. Firstly, when I'm outside shooting, I'm often in aperture mode, so I've chosen the aperture I want the camera to use and it changes the shutter speed to make the exposure proper for the entire picture. I'm always using exposure compensation on the fly as my picture changes. If I'm taking a picture of something that's dark in tone, I need to set the camera to tell it it's darker. I need to switch this to a minus compensation. Like if I'm taking a black horse standing in front of green trees, that's overall a slightly dark scene, and I'll swap that down to about minus one on the exposure compensation. Conversely, if I'm photographing a great, big waterfall on a sunny day, I'm gonna crank that to the plus side and say,…
