Powering on your speedlight and choosing the right batteries

- In order to use your speedlight, you've gotta have batteries in it. Not all batteries are created equal when we're talking about speedlights. There's your typical, alkaline batteries, and these work great. You just get them at the grocery store and they're ready to go. I always keep a pack of these in my bag just in case my rechargeables run out. Rechargeables are a much better way to go when you are buying batteries for your speedlight, and there's a couple of reasons for it. Firstly, they are reusable so they're creating less impact with the chemicals inside when we discard them eventually, and secondly, they recycle inside the flash faster. Recycle means the time between when you use the flash until the time it's ready to flash again. It's a very short time, but rechargeable, nickel-metal hydride batteries reduce that time and they recycle faster. I strongly recommend you go for the nickel-metal hydride.
