- As you put together your engagement plan as a digital leader, there are a couple questions that you should keep in mind and be able to answer. The first one is how will engagement change, develop, and deepen the relationship with the people you are trying to influence? How will they be seeing that relationship changing? What are the ways that they want to engage with you? And how will that engagement move the relationship forward? How will you transform that relationship because of that engagement? Another way to think about this, and the second question to answer, is how will you actually maintain that relationship over time? This is not something that you do just once and you're done.
This is something, again, it's a relationship that you're going to develop and sustain over a period of time throughout the leadership period that you are going to be there with that organization. So really think about where and how you are engaged because this is something that you have to be able to sustain and be able to develop and nurture with those followers. And then the third one is how will you scale that engagement? As you can imagine over time more and more people see you getting engaged with other people, and they will want to engage too.
Having that plan in place, knowing what kind of relationships you want to develop, and how you want to sustain it will also beg the question how will you scale it? Will you have a team of people where you use tools to be able to find the right types of engagement that can leverage your time most importantly. Remember the biggest challenge that you as a leader period have is time and attention. So how will you very preciously manage that time and attention to be able to leverage the type of engagement you want to have to transform these relationships? Again if you can figure out the type of relationships you want to create that can really make that engagement count, make sure that you can manage it over time and then scale it.
