From the course: Marci Alboher on Pursuing an Encore Career Instead of Retirement

A new stage of life and work

- And there's a reason this topic is becoming more popular in the conversation. There's actually several reasons and I just want to go through them a little bit so we have some context for why we're even talking about this now. If you haven't noticed, the retirement system has been entirely shaken up. Either people can't afford to retire or if they can afford, they probably don't want to retire. They may want to still achieve and still be relevant in the world. We also, we're just living longer, if we're lucky, than we ever have before. We're also living in a time where there are four, sometimes even five, generations at work. So a new life stage has opened up and we can craft entirely new roles for what that new life stage looks like. And the final thing we're going to talk about a lot is meaning and purpose. We all seek meaning and purpose at every stage of life, but it does feel a little different when we age. Issues of legacy come up, you know, what haven't I gotten to yet, what's on my bucket list? All that kind of stuff. So we're going to talk about all of those things.
