The leadership oath
- Being a leader is a noble endeavor, and as a leader you have a strong impact on your employees' lives. Depending on how you behave, you might help or hurt their quality of life. That's why it always surprises me there's no test (laughs) or license required. There's no required way to vet leaders. No test, no required training, nothing. If you have a pulse and someone in power wants to make you a leader of a team, you're in (laughs). I really think that's odd. So that's why I created what I call The Leadership Oath. If nothing else, you can challenge yourself to live up to the standards it defines. It has 10 parts and all of them matter. As I share them, think about how well you've been living up to each of these standards. One, I resolve to improve myself and my organization, to better the professional lives of those whom I lead, and to productively impact the larger community. Two, I will respect my employees and colleagues as important individuals, and to be open to their input…
