Wisely prioritizing
- Prioritizing is quite a tricky word, because if something's a priority, it can mean that it's urgent, and it can mean that it's important. And these two concepts are totally different things. Urgency is when you've got to do it. Importance is how long you should spend on it. They're completely independent, and yet the word is used for both. So the key is really to get some sort of blend of important and urgent tasks during your day. You have to be the urgent ones, because otherwise you get into trouble in the short term. But you also have to do the important ones, because they are the ones that will contribute to your achievement in the longer-term. So if you just do the most urgent thing first all the time, you'll never get around to important things, and you won't achieve in the longer term.
