Why purpose and vision matter

- On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King stood before a crowd of 250,000 people gathered in Washington, D.C. In his powerful I Have A Dream speech, Dr. King created a vision where everyone had equal rights, regardless of the color of their skin. He said, "I have a dream that one day this nation "will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident "that all men are created equal." His dream become a touchstone for the civil rights movement in the United States. Another inspiring leader is Mother Theresa of Calcutta. She was a Roman-Catholic nun and missionary. She had a dream to serve the poorest and forgotten members of society, and to help them live with dignity. What do these leaders have in common? They both led with a powerful purpose, and a vision for change that served others. This allowed them to capture the imagination and the commitment of other people.
