When you have no prep time
- I know what some of you might be saying. Okay, but what about when we don't have time at all to prepare? You're right, that does happen. If you literally have no prep time, you have two options. The first is to briefly delay. In essence, you're carving out the 30 seconds you need to do your short preparation. It's low risk and pretty easy to do. You simply ask the person in charge to come back to you following the next part of the meeting. Many times the person in charge will say, "Okay, sure. "Hey Bob, what about your team? "What's your status?" Bob starts speaking and your head is down, writing just a small number of words for your 30-second prep. Intro, two to three points, the close, and the call to action. Now, if that doesn't feel comfortable to you, or you really don't have time and you need to speak right now, you've only got one choice. You're going to work through the 30-second prep out loud while speaking to the group. You know the structure, intro, two to three points…
