- I met with the CEO of a nonprofit to discuss what it takes to attract top candidates these days. She told me she was thinking about making her benefits package more appealing. I told her that could be an expensive mistake, that she might end up wasting money on things that don't mater to the candidates she's trying to attract. And I advised her first to develop an overall talent strategy. Here's what I shared with her. Organizations need to put the right people in management, because poor leaders are what I call Teflon leaders, and they repel talent. The majority of candidates are looking to work for a magnetic leader. A magnetic leader is someone who cares deeply for the people that work for them.
