- I met with the CEO of a nonprofit to discuss what it takes to attract top candidates these days. She told me she was thinking about making her benefits package more appealing. I told her that could be an expensive mistake, that she might end up wasting money on things that don't mater to the candidates she's trying to attract. And I advised her first to develop an overall talent strategy. Here's what I shared with her. Organizations need to put the right people in management, because poor leaders are what I call Teflon leaders, and they repel talent. The majority of candidates are looking to work for a magnetic leader. A magnetic leader is someone who cares deeply for the people that work for them. They're authentic and they put the needs of their people before their own. Employees naturally gravitate to these leaders. It's the power of magnetism.
