- Let's say you're sitting quietly in the big meeting when, unexpectedly and without warning, your boss asks you to stand up and address the group. All of the senior leadership is there, several colleagues, and even two clients are in the room with you. What do you do? Well, of course, you have to say something, but exactly how well you perform, who knows? Welcome to impromptu speaking. Does this situation sound like fun to you? Statistically, I know the answer. Most people can't stand public speaking of any kind and that's when they have time to prepare. I know that almost no one is excited about impromptu speaking, but here's why you have to care. Most professionals will be asked to speak on the fly, unplanned, impromptu multiple times every year. In this course, I'll explain exactly what impromptu speaking is, why it's so important, how it can help or hurt you, and, most importantly, how you can successfully build this skill. In some ways, your reputation is on the line. Fair or not, when a person speaks in front of a group, they're judged quite strongly. The good news is that if you know what you're doing, you can build your reputation just by using words effectively. Let's start thinking about exactly how to do that.
