Welcome

- If you're like many managers, you're probably working with people from different cultures. Maybe, you're traveling to other countries to see colleagues, clients, suppliers, or vendors. Or maybe, you're leading a virtual global team, or even a co-located one. Even if you don't have to get on a plane for work, in today's global economy, chances are pretty high that managing across cultures is important for you. And if you're like most people, it might not be one of your strongest skills. In fact, thousands of managers recently rated their managerial skills, and guess what? The skills with the lowest ratings were those related to cultural agility, like intercultural communication and working in other cultures. I'm Paula Caligiuri and I'm thrilled you're joining me for this course. I'm a Professor, Author, and a Consultant working with companies all around the world to help their employees succeed in different countries. Managing globally isn't easy, but it is a critical skill and one that will help you advance your career. About 1/3 of CEOs reported canceling global strategic initiatives due to talent-related concerns, including the need for more culturally agile managers. Great global managers are in demand. The good news is that your cultural agility can be developed. It's a skill, it's a practiced act. And I'm confident that this course, combined with some practice, can help you become a great leader anywhere in the world.
