- The final thing that you need for effective time management is some sort of well-organized diary. I'm saying well-organized 'cause everybody has a diary, I would imagine, but a diary is much more than just a list of appointments. There should be some other things in your diary, as well. Ideally, you put in an appointment with the most important person of all, who is yourself. So you perhaps put in half an hour of time to get ahead, to work on a project, to do something that you want to do, and you try to keep that time. Another point about diaries, it should be always with you and it should include home and work so you've got everything in one place. Another point about diaries is your diary should never be completely full. If your diary for tomorrow is already completely stuffed with meetings and appointments, you're going to have a problem, because things are going to crop up and then you'll have to cancel a meeting or miss something.
