- Thought leaders don't operate in a vacuum. When you're working to bring about change, it's critical to understand the environment you're operating in and the political, economic, technological, and societal trends that will impact your work. If you can align to major trends, you can often move more quickly to overcome people's natural resistance to change. This will also help you get your message heard. Most of the time, the trends are pretty obvious. That's why they're called trends. They're where the conversation is happening now. By reading the newspaper, looking at social media keywords, thumbing through trade magazines, or talking to other top experts in your niche, you can begin to identify the trends that matter.
