- Facilitators can create all the structure and process to set the team up for success, but the foundation of the team's performance will be built on trust and connection. To help us wrap our heads around trust, consider this equation: trust is equal to the sum of our credibility, reliability, and intimacy, all divided by self-orientation. Let's break this down. Credibility is the extent to which others believe we are experts, or at least knowledgeable, on a topic. Reliability is about dependability. If you say you're going to do something, do people have faith that what you say is what you'll do? Intimacy here represents a security and interdependence people feel with you. For example, do people feel comfortable sharing confidential information with you, knowing that you will not repeat it?
