- One of the most important aspects of your high potential management strategy involves communication. How you interact with them, teach them and challenge them. Guide them in thinking more strategically. I have five recommendations you can use to elevate your communication approach when working with these future leaders. First, position yourself as a coach. Make your meetings with your high potentials interactive, and demonstrate that you're interested in their success. The goal is to build trust and establish a feeling of a partnership in crafting solutions and growing their careers. Help your high potentials come up with their own ideas and approaches, rather than directing them to solutions. Encourage them to think critically and challenge their own assumptions.
