Setting effective goals

- Possibly the most important bit of time management is to have very clear personal goals. These are the root of everything and it's very important to think about what your goals are. Most people's goals probably quite vague in their head but they do have them, to enjoy themselves outside work and maybe to achieve a certain amount at work but if you think about it a bit more, why not have a goal to enjoy your work as well or to find work that you enjoy as well as it giving you a sense of achievement? You're there five days a week, you might as well enjoy it as well as achieving as much as you can and also outside work. Why not have goals not just to enjoy yourself but to achieve things in your personal life as well? So your goals would ideally be to enjoy and to achieve at home and at work and these goals would ideally be fairly specific, fairly detailed. What do you want to do in the coming year or perhaps in the next five years in these four areas and a really good idea is to write this down. Draw out a little two by two box, at home and work going across and enjoy and achieve down the side and see if you can fill some things in and really think about that. Very important to know where you're going. Once you have decided where you want to go, you will inevitably move in that direction because your subconscious will be set like satnav or some sort of autopilot. You'll make little decisions that will take you towards where you want to go. So start with your goals and you will achieve them.
