- A study by Badgeville found that almost four out of every five employees report that their most meaningful recognition had no dollar amount. While money might feel like a nice reward and help us pay our rent or buy food, it doesn't satisfy our long-term craving for meaning. Recognition has a more powerful effect on someone's life because it provides validation and shows the importance of someone's work. Instead of money, offer a compliment, take an employee out for lunch, or allow them to work from home for a few days.
