Product led or market led?

- Next, I want to cover one of the big marketing debates, product led versus market led. Basically the dilemma that everyone has, from individuals right up to massive corporations, is do we make what we think is good and then try to sell it? Which is being product led. Or do we find out what people want and then try to make it? Which is being market led. You can imagine that both have their difficulties. Were iPhones successful because Steve Jobs successfully identified a market need, and then made a product to fill that need? Or did he start with a great product, and the market came to him? Personally, I think he was product led. He invented a new product that nobody had even imagined could exist, so he created a whole new market. He was product led. But being product led is very risky. If you just make something that you think is good, there is a risk that everybody else won't buy it. The advantage is that at least you're doing the thing that you're best at, the thing that you love.…
