- Next I want to say something about agendas. Some people are more structured in their thinking than others but if you want to get something complicated across to an audience, it has to really be in some form of structure, you can't just ramble through one point after another. The ideal structure would probably have three sections and then perhaps within each section there might be several points and the audience need to know what the structure is going to be at the start and that's really the purpose of the agenda. So, at the beginning, you say them my talk is going to be in three areas and within each area I'm going to cover X, Y and Z. So, they know what they're going to get and the format that they're going to get it in. So, very important to have an agenda and then sign post where they are as you go through the talk. I think of it a bit like traveling on a train and each station you get to there's a little sign that says you are now at the next station, so you know where you are…
