- Now this section here, this next section, may sound a bit theoretical, a bit academic, but it is actually very practical, it's worth bearing with it. When I first saw Tannenbaum and Schmidt's theory, tell, sell, consult, et cetera, and then when I saw the Freedom Ladder, I thought they were quite similar in a way, 'cause the person down the bottom wants tell, or he's asking for tell, and the person at the top, who's free to act, that's much more a delegating empowerment thing. At first I thought the only difference between them really, was that Tannenbaum and Schmidt is what the leader does, as the Freedom Ladder is what the subordinate, the team member, the person does, so they wait until told, or whatever. But I've realized that actually, there's more to it than that, because in the middle, they're different, it's only the ends where they're similar.
