- Around the time Millennials were entering the workforce, I was helping a beverage company hire members of this generation into their sales department. I can recall stories where hiring managers were being asked how soon before I get promoted? Or one of my favorites, when do I get my own office? Millennials, or Gen Y, born between 1982 and 1997, were jolted into reality by the Great Recession and were forced to reconcile with the fact that like everyone else, they'd have to pay their dues. This generation has put the co into collaboration. They're accustomed to working on teams and tend to flow in and out of projects with ease. They're also used to working side by side with one another in open-office environments and view having their boss in the next cube as an asset, rather than a hindrance. This generation prefers to communicate via text or chat, rather than email, but then again, Gen Xers preferred email over phone calls and no one made a big deal over that. What matters most is…
