- When I was thinking about bad bosses, I felt that micromanagement deserved a video of its own because it's pretty common, and also, it's quite a tricky area. There are some issues that need explaining and understanding. And by micromanagement, I mean any form of interference or over-control by your boss. When they tell you exactly how to do something, check very frequently on your progress, or make tiny corrections to work that you've done. The dilemma that managers have is how closely they should monitor and control the people who are working for them. Not enough monitoring, and the job can go off the rails. Too much monitoring, and it annoys the person who's meant to be doing the job. Don't you trust me to get on with this job? I can easily do it myself! The first thing to ask yourself, if you have a manager who micromanages you is, does it matter? So what if they want to know everything you're doing? If you're doing it right, it's fine.
