- As a culture, one of the reasons we don't always achieve our full potential is because we don't spend enough time contemplating and scripting our goals. Research by the University of Scranton shows that 92% of people didn't even set New Year's goals this year. So why don't we set goals? One of the main reasons is that people don't take the time to think about what they actually want to achieve and the greater vision for their organization. We're so caught up in our daily lives that we don't focus on the work that will give us meaning and purpose. Instead of being proactive with our goals, we become reactive, letting our organizations or our clients dictate our goals. What we should be doing is collaborating with our team on goals, committing to them, and then executing. Everything I've ever achieved has come from taking the time to understand what needs to get done now, this year, and five years from now.
