Listening skills: Working through resistance
- On a scale of one to 10, how much do you love being told what to do? No matter your age, chances are you don't like being told. During change, no one wants to be told. They need to understand the change and then have time to process the change. Processing change requires a conversation. A conversation requires talking and listening. If you aren't listening to your team, you are missing key information and insights about their frustrations, worries, and doubts so you can help them with their change process. Listening during change is important for the following reasons, it helps you understand how your team is experiencing the change by taking time to listen to their point of view. It helps you to get feedback and find out about the problems before they escalate. It facilitates processing. People process life through conversation.
