- The United States of America's Constitution was written in an attempt to create rules that apply to everyone. From there, we created a whole lot of laws designed to try to keep things fair. Our perceptions of what's fair don't always mesh. But in the end, that's what the laws are for. And, of course, many of those laws apply to employers and their employees. While I'm not an attorney and any legal advice should be sought from one, I did want to briefly touch on some main laws that relate to fairness in the workplace. First up is equal pay. The Equal Pay Act was signed into law in the 60s and was meant to provide distributive fairness in abolishing gaps in pay between men and women. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go, and research is still showing us that women and minority groups make less than Caucasian men for the same job. I encourage you to review your pay and benefits and ensure that all employees who do the same job are paid the same wage. The Fair Labor Standards…
