- This first section is called, What is Leadership? It's actually quite a hard thing to define. There are hundreds of books written about leadership. Lots of famous leaders giving their opinion on what it really is and there's even a debate about leadership versus management. Is management a subset of leadership or is leadership a subset of management? I'm not sure if it really matters that much. I think most managers have to be a leader as well as a manager. I think leaders are probably a bit keener on vision and motivation than managers. Managers are more about efficiently carrying out processes and more to do with measurement and systems, but you have to do both so why worry too much about the difference between leadership and management? But, in this section, we're going to have a look at what leadership involves and I hope that will make it clearer for you.
