- In terms of leading the thinking, you as the leader need to see over the horizon. You're not getting paid for the day-to-day operations. You're getting paid to look beyond what's coming and figure out what are the innovative new things that we can do, what are the big risks we're facing down the road? Now, if you're anything like me, I fear change. I like when things are working. And it's hard for me to challenge the status quo even when I don't have a lot of things standing in the way of me making changes. So I need a maxim that reminds me to step back and question what I'm doing. That maxim is the five whys, why, why, why, why, why. Now that probably doesn't make a lot of sense to you in the context of how it helps me drive change.
