Identifying a lost cause

- Have you ever worked with someone who has a bad case of what I call the quit and stay? These are the people who quit working, but stay at their desk. They show up for work with their bodies, but they leave their brains and hearts at home. Common signs of quit and stay are lots of heavy sighs, no eye contact, they don't offer suggestion or ideas, they don't answer questions, and they have a habit of rejecting everything. Now, just because someone is quiet, don't jump to conclusions, they could simply be introverted or they might be having a bad day. If however it's a consistent pattern and they're truly not engaged the first thing you want to do is meet them where they are and see if you can get some small movement. Let's take a look at two scenarios where I talk to Elizabeth about my new HR initiative, peer-to-peer coaching.
