Handling passive-aggressive people
From the course: Working with Difficult People (2017)
Handling passive-aggressive people
- The difficulty with both passive and passive-aggressive people is that the channel of communication isn't there. At least with aggressive people, you know what they're thinking and you know what they want, while the passive person is just sitting there with everything bottled up. And the passive-aggressive person is taking it out behind your back in what they say to other people, or even what they do when you're not around. If you feel that the person is unlikely to change, then the main question is, does it matter? It's more their problem than yours if they don't express an opinion, if they're not happy, or if they're bottling up stress and unhappiness. As long as you give them an opportunity to speak up, if they don't take it, then that's up to them. They're grown ups. Of course, there is a price that you're paying in reduced performance. It's not really as good for the team as a whole, and there's a risk that they will blow up one day, but tackling their quietness may be more…
