From the course: Ram Charan on Coaching High Potentials

Finding meaningful focus

- I come from the Eastern culture. I was brought up in Sanskrit. That learning had one simple thing. What makes you happy? What's your life's purpose? Do you want a high potential? You can be very materialistic. That should give you happiness. You should know what you were seeking. You need to reflect now and then. Is this really, you will look when you go on the deathbed, what you did? Materialism, gone beyond the borders of realism, is sometimes going to catch up with you. Self-reflection, you do it alone. You do with somebody. See what balance you have, what balance you did have, what balance you'd like to have. When people are succeeding in high potential, they tend to cross the boundaries. Many have crossed the boundaries that've been caught. Many of them not been caught. When people say, "The system is this, everybody does it. "I should do it." Beware of it. You should reform the system and not be run by the system, to do things that at some point, cross the legal limits. Here, we see Uber. Mr. Kalanick is coming out now. No limits, getting things done that are now coming to haunt, and it is doing damage personally and to the group. Watch those signs. These are the things that get off the rails. Reflection is for refocus. Reflection to search what gives you happiness. Reflection to see that even though you may have made billions, nobody is going to remember you. Maybe you don't want to be remembered. But be honest. What is the source of your satisfaction? Legally and ethically crossing the line. In this day and age, transparency matter as people are being caught as I make this video today. It's not big companies, highly reputable companies, and these are the high potentials who got in power. And in the madness to become billionaire, in the madness to become number one, they destroyed everything. High potentials have the narcissistic abilities to destroy themselves. Avoid it.
