- I'm sure you've considered talking to HR about your situation at work, or perhaps you have already and it didn't go the way you'd hoped. I know that if you've looked up workplace bullying online, you found a whole lot of people who claim HR isn't on your side, and there are many people out there with stories of telling HR about bullying and getting no where. Or worse, getting retaliated against. I'm in HR, so I'm hoping I can offer a little information about the world HR functions in. HR's ultimate goal is to build up people so that they are thriving. A good HR person is focused on benefits and compensation, building employee engagement, employer branding, and onboarding programs, for example. But HR must build happy, thriving employees inside the confines of compliance. So in some ways, they operate like an attorney. They're like a cheerleader and a referee, all at the same time.
