Creating a plan

- You've just been told you have four very important people coming to your house for dinner this evening. You really like these folks and want to show them a good time. Why do we consider this a pressure situation? Well, we fear being embarrassed or perhaps we worry about ruining our guests' evening. We also feel we have limited resources or skills. High expectations, no time to waste, sounds like we need a plan. Every second counts. So what are the goals for the evening? Excellent food, appetizers, dinner, and a dessert. What are the elements of a win? The food is ready on time. Your guests are satisfied. Which resources are available to you? The stuff in your fridge and cabinets. Your kitchen equipment, five hours, a vehicle to get you to the market, and your cooking skills. So how might we begin our plan? Create a timeline. Figure out which resources and ingredients will be needed at each stage. Don't forget to leave room for error. If you don't build flexibility into your plan…
