- Leaders need to manage a variety of work styles on a cross-functional team. This can range from people wanting to work in groups versus wanting to work individually. Some want to work late, work early, some want to work from home or from the office. There may even be preferences around using email or voicemail. Outside of doing any sort of massive assessment of how the team works, just sit down and have a working session. Discuss work style preferences. I worked with one cross-functional leadership team where they were having problems in their day to day interactions. We sat down and said, what's everybody's preferred work style? We looked at how they like to communicate, when they like to come to work, where they like to work. One of the big surprises that came out of that was this client had a large email culture.
