- Would you like to know what to say when you don't know what to say? You're in the right place. A woman representing her organization at a national trade show told me she was terrified of being asked something she didn't know. She said, I've studied the product manuals, memorized my speech, and I still worry someone will trip me up and I'll look lie a fool in front of the crowd. I said, Tina, please understand, we can never know everything. That's an unrealistic goal that keeps you in a state of anxiety. Do you know how anxiety is defined? Not knowing. It's more proactive to prepare how to keep your cool when, not if, someone asks something you don't know so you can handle it with poise and professionalism. Here are three ways to do that. Step one, if someone asks something you don't know, never say I don't know and leave it at that. People will feel you've dropped the ball because you didn't answer their question.
