Your success as a technical professional probably involved the ability to look at large projects or huge amounts of data and zoom in on the problem or the most important piece of the puzzle. As a manager it's important to retrain yourself to zoom out and look at the overall business perspective, the big picture, the broader context. In other words, you want to move from tactical to strategic. There are three specific things you can do to incorporate the business perspective and increase the value of your position as a new manager. First, soak up as much knowledge as you can.
