Allocating and prioritizing work
From the course: Managing a Cross-Functional Team
Allocating and prioritizing work
- Determining who will perform which tasks on your cross-functional team and setting team priorities are key leadership activities that you're responsible for. The prioritization challenge isn't so much generating your team's prioritization list, as it prioritizing your team's work alongside the day-to-day work of your team members. Remember, they're not full time on your project. You need to fit in your responsibilities alongside the work they're responsible for every day. To do this you need to lay out the work streams and deliverables. You have to define the importance of each task and understand the timing by which it needs to be done. Ask your team members to build a list of their daily responsibilities. That list should include both projects and day-to-day priorities. You'll need to feather the lists together. You'll have to identify resource shortages or timelines that just won't work and they'll need to shift. Get additional resources if the team members' other priorities take…
