Join Olivia Chiu Stone for an in-depth discussion in this video What you should know, part of LINQ with C# Essential Training.
- Before you start this course, there are a few things you need to know. This course focuses on implementing LINQ, a component of Visual Studio with C#. I won't spend any time explaining C# syntax so you need to be comfortable writing programs in C# before beginning this course. Later in this course, I'll be running an SQL database. To follow along with these videos, you will need access to an SQL server. SQL Server Express is a free version of SQL you can download and use. If you do not have access or don't want to set up a server of your own, don't fret.
I'll only use it for a few videos. Once I'm done with SQL, I'll spend two videos toying around in XML. You won't need to know XML to follow along. Although a basic familiarity wouldn't hurt. Finally, I'll be working in Visual Studio 2015 Community. If you're in a different version, some of the tools may not be available so keep that in mind.

11/30/2015In LINQ with C# Essential Training, engineer Olivia Chiu introduces techniques for querying, updating, and transforming data with LINQ. She covers standard queries—such as finding overlaps in two datasets and creating hierarchies—as well as complex chained queries. She also shows how to group and join LINQ queries with lambda expressions, and use LINQ to query SQL databases and XML documents. Last but not least, Olivia provides tips for optimizing the performance of your queries.
- Creating and executing a LINQ query
- Returning results
- Changing the data source type
- Performing standard queries
- Working with lambda expressions
- Chaining and complex queries
- Querying SQL and XML
- Performing tree queries
- Using sequences, elements, and scalars
- Allocating memory
