Join Karin Hutchinson for an indepth discussion in this video Solving a twostep equation with a fraction as the coefficient, part of Learning Algebra: Solving Equations.
Our next twostep equation…may look a little more difficult.…In this equation, we're going to solve for P.…And we have one equals twothirds P, plus six.…It may look a little more difficult because…one, it's written backwards.…And two, it contains a fraction.…But don't worry because you know how to deal…with both of those problems.…The first thing that we're going to do is…we're going to rewrite it with the…variable expression on the lefthand side.…The variable expression is twothirds P, plus six.…
We're going to take this entire expression…and rewrite it, first, on the lefthand side.…So we have twothirds P, plus six.…And then I'm going to write the equals one…on the righthand side.…Now I just need to continue solving.…I know that six is the constant in this equation.…And that's the number that I need to get rid of first.…Because it's plus six, I know that I can subtract six…in order to get rid of it.…So we're going to have twothirds P…plus six…and then I'm going to subtract six…from the lefthand side.…
I need to remember that if I subtract six…
