 In this lesson we will continue solving…Absolute Value Equations.…For this equation we have the absolute value of 2 y plus 4…minus 8 equals 12.…This equations a little different…because we have the absolute value…on the left hand side,…but we also have a constant on the left hand side.…And one of the most important rules…that we need to remember,…when we're working with absolute value,…is we need to isolate the absolute value…in order to solve the equation.…
And what that means is,…we need to get the absolute value expression by itself…on one side of the equation.…So what we need to do then…is get rid of this minus 8…before we can begin solving.…So we are going to do that exactly the same way…that we've solved every other equation.…We're going to bring down this absolute value expression,…and since we're subtracting 8,…we would add 8 to both sides of the equation.…So we have 12 and then plus 8.…
And so what happens is, on the left hand side,…negative 8 plus 8 is zero,…and I'm left with just the absolute value expression.…
